I decided to use Sharon Salzberg's book "Real Happiness" since it's a 28-day program for beginning meditation. I figure I can wing it for the last two days, and bingo, 30. The book comes with a CD of some guided meditations, so I started with a 20 minute breathing meditation this afternoon. Surprisingly pleasant, and refreshing. It's only the first day, and I'm sure some challenging days await, but I'm excited to begin again tomorrow.

Sounds like a good start! And, if you're just getting started having a guide is a good idea.
This is a great idea. I might try this, too.
I believe in the power of Sharon Salzberg.
Excellent! You'll be hooked in no time (in a good way!). If you haven't looked at Jon Kabat Zinn, I recommend him as well. Really interesting work combining meditation and pain management.
That's a good idea - almost as if you have your own guide/tutor for the 30 days. I'd probably be ticking off each day in the book too!
Bob, yes! I have Jon Kabbat Zin's Wherever You Go, There You Are: Mindfulness Meditation in Everyday Life. I love it - it's one of the few books on meditation that speaks to me in every line.
wait...doesn't "i'm excited to try this again" sort of contradict the calm you're supposed to be looking for? ;->
